Subject: Work performed at Manchester address.

Dear Peter:

Several people have contacted me asking my experience having you as the contractor on the sunroom you constructed in 2000/2001 and the extensive remodeling you did in 2006/2007. I thought you should be told in summary what my answers have been. Neither project was for a low dollar amount, but I’ll be the first to say you delivered value for those dollars. When they asked for more detail, I’ve mentioned the following:

What first comes to mind is your initial reaction after examining the architect’s drawings for the sunroom addition. You quickly identified several potential problem areas: The stone interior facade would require a six inch relocation of an exterior wall in order to have sufficient foundation area to support the heavy stonework. Collar ties must be added to prevent splaying of the walls in the octagonal “bump outs”. Reorientation of the floor joists and use of engineered lumber would be a better way of achieving rigidity of the large floor expanse. Had work proceeded per the original drawings these shortcomings would have “bitten” us.

The remodeling job was, as you know, left open-ended because we didn’t know what would be uncovered once demolition had begun. Your suggestion to replace the 1/2” flooring underlayment with new technology composite was a good call. The tile flooring would never have given the solid feeling it has now. Hand building the decorative ceiling beams from oak stock gave a superior result to anything “store-bought”. The “Runtal” European-style radiators are vastly superior in performance and appearance to the old traditional baseboards. Your willingness and industriousness in re-doing the cabinet bases to achieve the openness I desired to achieve the Scandinavian “look” was great. Your suggestions resulting in use of Italian style tile wall and floor accents made a striking contrast which draws admiring comments. And neither I nor others I’d consulted prior to the beginning of work thought, as you did, to add another east-facing window with the Frank Lloyd Wright design art glass to catch the morning sun in the breakfast area. My friends have said, “Tuscany Design Build has pretty good taste.”

Very truly yours,

Paul F. Berg

Member Comments:

Exceptionally well. We obtained 3 estimates for the work and Peter's was in the middle regarding cost. We selected Pete because we felt that he was easy to work with, provided good suggestions and most importantly was experienced. He also had many excellent references that vouched for his work. Pete did most of the work himself as well as general contracted the needed trades people (i.e. plumber, electrician and sheetrock). Pete was very good planning the renovations so they'd be the least disruptive to our house and we could continue to use our kitchen which was very much appreciated. Overall, Pete delivered high quality results and completed the work on schedule. Being close to the holidays, that was very important to us. We are extremely happy with the renovations. Exceptional work from a true craftsman.
